How to Make Food Processor Baby Food
Making your own baby food can save you a bundle of money and could be healthier than the canned commercial alternatives. You don't know exactly what's in jarred baby food, but you know exactly what all is in your homemade baby food. And babies who start with homemade food have an easier time making the transition to table food. All you need is a food processor and you can whip up baby meals in no time.
Step1: Choose the food you want to make. With a food processor, you can make fruits, vegetables and meat. You can even mix and match.
Step2: Cook the food you'll feed your baby. You can chop it up and cook it, or you can cook it whole. But it should be fully cooked and as soft as possible before it goes in your food processor. Even some fruits should be cooked before your young baby eats it. Reserve the liquid that the foods were cooked in, because they'll be useful in your puree.
Step3: Determine the texture your baby needs. If you have a young baby, you might need a smoother texture. But older babies enjoy foods that are more solid.
Step4: Select the blade that works best for the texture you need. If you're looking to chop the food, select that blade. But if you want to make a puree, make sure that blade is in your food processor.
Step5: Chop the food into smaller pieces and add it to the food processor. Remove skins, if necessary, because they can be difficult to puree. Add small amounts of your reserved liquid, depending on how watery you want the texture to be. Some nutrients might have been lost while cooking, but using the reserved liquid instead of plain water replenishes some of those nutrients.
Step6: Select the button you need to push. "Liquefy" or "Puree" might be the buttons you'll select for a watery texture. "Chop" and "Mix" are better for older babies.
